      ASEAN COMPREHENSIVE INVESTMENT AGREEMENT (ACIA) FORUM AND SEMINAR

      “Positioning of Myanmar as an Investment Destination through ACIA”

       

      Yangon, 20-21 July 2016 – A Forum to promote awareness and understanding of ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA) to investors and business communities in Myanmar was conducted in Yangon on 20 July 2016. The Forum was followed by a more in-depth seminar on ACIA on 20-21 July 2016 to the government officials of Myanmar, particularly the policy-makers and the investment promotion agency officials, which aim to enhance their understanding of the ACIA provisions.

      The Forum and Seminar are the most recent of the series of similar activities conducted under the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Investment (CCI) to socialise the ACIA, after being held in Kuala Lumpur (March 2013), Manila (January 2014), Jakarta (April 2015), Bandar Seri Begawan (May 2015), Bangkok and Singapore (April 2016).

      The Forum was opened by U Aung Naing Oo, Director-General, Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA),Ministry of Planning and Financeof Myanmar and attended by participants from the government, private sector, the Republic of the Union Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and representatives from the embassies of ASEAN Member States and Australia in Myanmar.

      With the theme “Positioning of Myanmar as an Investment Destination through ACIA“, the Forum discussed the salient features of ACIA and its potential benefits to Myanmar, as well as the experiences of investors investing in Myanmar. 

      The events are jointly organised by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA), Ministry of Planning and Finance of Myanmar with the support of the Australian Government through the ASEAN Australia Development Cooperation Programme Phase II (AADCP) II.
